Well finally finished my hat...and I say finally since all I had to do was add the ears, flower and facial features only to have my little miss try her hardest to pull off the whiskers and flower! I now need to redo the whiskers and flower to make sure they are Keira proof!!!

Okay, I finally made it and is it ever cute cute cute! I made Oslofia's HK hat in tiny needles and yarn to fit an American Girl Doll! Whee is it ever cute on that doll!!!

I have forgotten how much fun it is to make doll clothes--I used to have a blast sewing clothes for my DD's American Girls 18" doll. It was such fun to knit this.

I love HK!!!!!!!

My mods: I used Dalegarn Baby Ull fine yarn with needles in U.S. size 1 to knit this (instead of worsted). And I made different ears by CO 18 sts, and doing garter stitch, with 2 dec every other row until there were only two st, then K2 tog and thread yarn through. I also embroidered the features with other yarns, instead of using felt. (I did adjust the hat slightly, by cutting out 4-5 rows overall.)

Now on to the next HK project! Thanks to Oslofia for the cute patterns :)

Wet Wool

I finished my mittens! I am waiting for them to dry before I put my HK heads on them. This pair is almost too small!! I can barely get them over my hands. It could be because they are wet and they don't want to slide very well.

This was a really easy project that turned out really cool. I wanna make more! They are a great stash-buster, especially when you use different colored strands.

I can wait to take pictures of them, but cold wet wool on my hands isn't that appealing right now! hehehe

Question about Decreasing

Hi -- Could someone advise regarding decreasing stitches in the knitted hat? I have completed the length to where I need to start to decreasing, and I am wondering what kind of decreasing stitch to use. In the past, I always k2tog to decrease, but this web page seems to say that k2tog creates a slant toward the right side. Should I k2tog on the left side of the hat but use a different technique such as slip-slip-knit (SSK) on the right side?

Thanks for any advice, and I apologise if this is not the correct forum for a question.

Hi, All -- Just a note to say that I've started. I've been scarce on the KAL blog, as I was embarrassed that I hadn't started yet. I'll save you the well-worn excuses. ;-) But I have begun and the body of the knitted hat is now about 2-1/2 inches (7 cm) long. Here's a picture of the casting-on. Love everyone's work. The thought of people around the world knitting along at the same time keeps me going. :-)

Editing in a Postscript: I just glanced at all the knitters blogs. Sorry, crocheters. :-) Mostly a bunch of crafty knitters, in deed. It's good to be associated with such a group of active people. Thanks, "Oslofia", for getting us together! Peace out.

I've knitted in it cotton, and since I didn't have any felt, Ive crochet the eyes, nose and flower.

Hat Coming Along

After finally getting my yarn over the weekend, I quickly cast on for the knit hat. Tonight I have completed the actual hat portion--now all that is left is to create the ears, stuff and attach them, and then cut, stuff, and apply the felt portions as well.

I am getting there, and I can't wait to see what's next on the list!

actually it was finish a time ago, but at first I tried to felt and I did not like it, so then i had to make another one that i did not felt and i think that one was better. I am not so familier with felting, so that was not something for me. But i am finish!!! and i am very pleased with the result:) I am going to show U some pictures, but me photocamera is charging, so u have to wait!!!

Felted Mitten Adventure - Part 2

OK, so I frogged the first mitten because I made a complete mess of it. Oslofia very kindly took another look at the pattern and worked it out so it made better sense to me and my newbie brain. I gave it another go, felted it and GOOD GRIEF! Not only did the two mittens come out different sizes, but they were too small! UGH!

Sooooooooooo, at the end of the CAL, I'm going to give these mittens another go. I just want to make sure I have enough yarn.

I also think I'm gonna try to find an unfelted mitten pattern, which I think will make me breathe easier. There's nothing worse than not having a project come out the way you planned.

On another, happier note, I redid the headband (increased to 13 scs), and it felted quite well. My daughter, Alli, loves it and, after I remake the HK motif to fit better, I'll show it off. I think I'll put some of my glass buttons on my first effort. Again, I'll show the finished product.

Well, Oslofia, dare I ask what the last pattern is? Since I had less than perfect results with the first two, I'm a little hesitant to try this third pattern. However, I'm nothing if not daring, so bring it on!

Well...........after improvising on yarn etc, I have finally finished the headband (not felted as you will notice, I truly was gonna give it a go, but couldn't get yarn anywhere near the suggested ply, or more importantly, yarn that was suitable for felting) I ended up adding a few sts and crocheting till the suggested length and voila..... Caitlin, my daughter, is pretty happy with it, felted or not, and is already wanting a purple one, lol. Can't wait for the next pattern.

My Finished Headband - Sort of......

Gosh, I think I've taken the term "obsession" to a new level. If you could have been a fly on the wall why I was crocheting this piece, you would still be laughing.

The headband was a very quick crochet. However, I flunked Felting 101 on this project because, even though I'm felting in a top loader, it came out alot thinner than I wanted. Therefore, my motif didn't fit. I've decided to wait to see if I have enough yarn left at the end of the CAL to make another one, definitely wider and probably unfelted (I don't trust myself to do the same thing twice!).

I'm positive that my motif took longer to make than the headband (and this is where the laughing comes in). Gosh! I made the first one, and the ears came out all wonky, which really ticked me off. So, I grabbed a smaller hook and gave it another try. And, like Goldilocks, it was "too small!" so, this afternoon, I was determined to make a non-wonky "just right" motif. Well, the head and ears came out ok, although it buckled slightly in the middle. The crazy part, however, was embroidering the eyes, nose and whiskers on. Sheesh! You'd think I'd know how to embroider something, ya know? But noooooooooooooooooooo! I pulled the nose out 3 times and the eyes out another 3 times. The whiskers took 2 shots. Instead of a felt flower, I found a cute little 5 petal flower pattern online and put that together. All my motif needs now is a small orange button for the center of my flower. Only then will I call this baby done!

I'm looking forward to part 2 - Mittens! I must confess that I've never made mittens before. Should I be scared? Naaaaaaaaaah - I'll be so obsessed with making them both the same size that I won't have time to be scared.

I accidentally signed up for the crochet part of this KAL. oops! Lets just say that it kick started my ambition to reteach myself to crochet. I don't think that I did that bad of a job. I did, however, let it felt for too long in the washer. It still fits, though!

I still haven't been able to get any yarn. I live in the sticks, lol, and besides that the only store I can access personally is crappy Spotlight. I have not been able to find any yarn that is anywhere near the 'requirements' I am not happy. I have been able to get supplies for the knitting kal, but not the crochet one :( I won't give up, lol.

Thank you so much for the hat... the maggers is loving hers! Now if i could just get her to keep it on her head...... she keeps taking it off and yelling "kitty", or taking it off to talk to it. I may end up adding cords to tie under her chin. I don't know. My camera is at the shop right now.. but as soon as it gets back we will have some pics. :)

Hello Kitty Winter Mama Headband - Finished!

I can't believe it - I finished the Hello Kitty Winter Mama Headband! Yay!
I decided not to felt it because I've never felted before and I also quite liked the texture the large hook produced. I made it in my favorite color - Purple!
Oslofia, crocheting this was so much fun! Thank you so much for this pattern.
Once I finished Hello Kitty and saw that it turned out so accurate and sweet, I simply had to finish the whole piece!

Its Christmas Eve - the kal has started

It's Christmas Eve...meaning the Hello Kitty Mystery kal has finally started. Since this is a mystery kal, you will receive one pattern at a time, receiving the next pattern as you go.

As you can see, the first items are a felted crochet headband for grown ups, and a knitted hat for kids. I made a blue flower first, but I just had to rip it off and replace it with a pink one.

Apart from this, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year :)

Hello Kitty Winter Mama is done!!!!

The grown up set is finally done...pjuh! I've used the same colours as for the kids set, white, red orange and pink. This is also a 3 piece set (I'm a bit like rainman...have to work stuff in uneven numbers....lol). The shopping list is posted in my notebook over at Ravelry, along with gauge and hook spesifications.

Now I have to write down everything nicely...which usually is a nightmare. This time around I tried to write down everything on my computer as I went along, but like any new year resolution...it went straight down the drain! I guess you know what I'll be doing for the next couple of days :)

Hello Kitty Winter Kids are done!!!!

Hi everybody!!!

The kids set is done...and here are some pictures to show you the colours I choose for the projects. I tried not to use pink...but sorry guys, the first blue flower I tried just didn't give me any LOVE so I had to take it off and make some pink flower power. You may off course use any colours you like, and it will be fun to see what you come up with during the kal.

Since I've posted some pictures now, I might as well tell you that it's a 3 piece set. My daughter looks really cute in hers, and I'll be taking some pictures of her wearing it when we get some snow here. I have tried to ordered some snow for the photo shoot, but my wish hasn't come true yet ;)

I've posted a shopping list over at Ravelry where you also will see needles and gauge etc.

Kal Projects

I have designed two sets for the kal. Like I wrote in the prev posting, its:

Knitted winter stuff for kids (accessories), and crochet winter stuff (accessories) for us big girls.

The patterns are heavily inspired by the winter season that suddenly came upon us here in Norway. I know that some of you doesn't have a white snowy cold landscape outside your house (like we scandics will have soon), thus I thought about doing something else for you?? Please send me an e-mail if you feel that winter stuff is just not your thang :)

The Hello Kitty Mystery KAL includes secret items designed by Oslofia.

Since this is a mysterious kal, the participants will not know what items to come. The kal will have knitted and crochetted projects to make. Patterns will be designed and tried out by oslofia in November, early December. I'm open to ideas and inputs on the upcoming designs.

Oslofia will be the host of the knitalong. The patterns will be distributed to the participating knitters and crochetters by e-mail in a pdf formate to you on Christmas eve. You can knit and crochet all items. However, you will only get one pattern or set to start with, and the following patterns as you go along finishing your projects.

Pictures of your finished items must be published on the Hello Kitty Mystery kal blog, and on the Hello Kitty Ravelry group. You must have your own blog or website to join this knitalong, and you must be a member of the Hello Kitty Ravelry group. This kal is open to members of this group only.

You will also get invited to become a member of the Hello Kitty blog. This will allow you to post pictures and postings on the HK blog your self. If you’re still interested in joining the Hello Kitty knitalong, please join with the understanding that the following kal rules must be followed:

1) Please use the blog actively, as we would love to see your HK stuff =) KAL’ers can post 'progress' pictures as they go. Photos of finished items must be posted on the Hello Kitty Blog and on the Hello Kitty ravelry group.

2) Try to limit the size of the pictures posted on the Hello Kitty blog. Feel free to link as many pictures as you want from your own blog or webspace in your postings on the Hello Kitty blog.
